BioSA has announced a new $1 million funding initiative aimed specifically at assisting in meeting the costs incurred in seeking patent protection for intellectual property (IP) emerging from South Australian universities.  This initiative is unique to South Australia.

The new “BioSA IP Management Initiative” will provide close to $1 million over three years to the commercialisation offices in South Australia’s universities, Adelaide Research & Innovation (ARI), ITEK and Flinders Partners. The funds will be used to support filing costs associated with patent applications.

The BioSA IP Management Initiative will expand the protection of IP generated in South Australia. Dr Jurgen Michaelis, CEO of BioSA, said, “The grants provided through this initiative will help South Australian researchers capture and protect emerging technologies developed through the research expertise in the state’s universities.”
